Information for Visitors: We hope you will enjoy your stay in the Island and look forward to welcoming you
to The Savoy. Below is some information you may find useful during your stay, particularly if
you are hiring a car while you are in the Island.
Speed: The maximum speed limit in Jersey is 40 mph and drivers use the left hand side
of the road. Many of our roads are narrow, and in some cases, speeds are 30 mph
or 20 mph. Some very narrow lanes enjoy ‘Green Lane’ status and have a 15 mph
limit, where cyclists and pedestrians take precedence over motor traffic. Please
drive carefully and use a map. Although the Island measures only 9 miles wide,
and five miles long, the road network is dense.
Paying to park: Parking in Jersey is mainly governed by a ‘paycard’ system. To park in car parks
in St Helier, (all year round) and in some beach car parks (in the summer) you
will require a book of scratch cards. A book of these are normally provided free
of charge with your hire car, but if you are bringing your own car, you will
need to buy them before you park as they are not available in car parks. You can
also buy them from the reception desk at the hotel, from most local shops and
newsagents, and from the Parking Control office in Sand Street car park.
Each card represents a ‘unit’ of time, which varies between 20 minutes or one
hour, depending on where you park. You must use one card to represent each
‘unit’ of time you expect your vehicle to be in the car park for. Some car parks
(especially in St Helier) have a three hour limit.
Driving in St Helier in summer can be slow, with a one-way system operating in
St Helier. We recommend that you take advantage of our free car park at The
savoy, enjoy a stroll into town, and use your car to explore parts of the Island
which are further afield.
Parking at all visitor attractions, such as the Jersey Heritage Trust sites,
Durrell (Jersey Zoo), the Jersey War Tunnels and La Mare Vineyards is free.
Animals: Dogs can be brought to Jersey. They must be walked on the lead whilst on the
beaches, during peak times in the summer months. Jersey Tourism have more
details, and signs are clearly posted at all beaches about the hours which are
suitable for your dog to walk off the lead.
Emergency numbers: The Savoy is situated directly opposite States of Jersey Police, which is open
24 hours a day. However, if you need to contact the Police or any other
emergency service, please call 999 in an emergency.
For non emergencies, the Police can be contacted on 612612. Should you have an
accident in your hire car while you are on holiday, please call 612612 to report
it, or 999 if it is an emergency.
Hospital treatment: Hospital treatment is available at the General Hospital, situated in the Parade,
a five minute walk away from The Savoy.
Useful websites:
The Savoy and the Environment:
The management team and the staff at The Savoy are committed to caring for the
environment and minimising the hotel’s ‘carbon footprint’ wherever possible.
This is achieved by:
-
Minimising ‘food miles’:
Jersey is an Island famed for fresh local produce. The best food available is
already right here on our doorstep, so wherever possible, we use the best
seasonal locally produced food in our restaurant to ensure that guests enjoy a
memorable meal. This includes Jersey milk, locally produced eggs, Jersey Royal
potatoes and a vast range of seafood, caught that day, plus a vast array of
berries and vegetables.
-
Having a laundry policy:
We ask guests to help us minimise our use of soap powder and electricity by
indicating whether or not they wish fresh towels to be placed in their room. If
you would like new towels, please place the used ones in your bath. If you are
happy to use them again, please hang your towels on the towel rail in your
bathroom.
-
By using solar power:
Our outdoor pool is heated by the latest solar collectors.
-
By recycling wherever possible:
Newspapers ordered by guests from reception can be recycled if you wish. If you
would like your newspaper recycled, please leave it next to the bin in your
bedroom during your stay. We are happy to recycle any newspapers or magazines
left by our guests which they have brought with them. We also recycle all
cardboard and batteries. Our lighting at the hotel is mainly powered by
low-energy bulbs.
